Vilnius International Airport

Vilnius International Airport located in the southern part of Vilnius city is the largest airport in Lithuania. Passengers are always kindly surprised of the convenience of the airport not only because of the services that are available in here but also because of its location as the airport is only 7 km or 15 minutes  by car from the city center that can easily be reached by taxi or by local public transport.

The Vilnius International Airport occupies the area of 326 ha, the aerodrome is 12,4 km long and runway stretches 2,5 km. The airport can service approximately 2000 passengers per hour, more than 10000 per day and 3 million per year. The passenger terminal  that consists of arrivals and departures has just been renovated and now takes up 37462 km2 including 6 passenger boarding bridges, modern passenger check-ins, duty free shops, Business and VIP Lounges.

The Passengers terminal is open 24 hours all year round. The airport is always busy despite the fact the aircraft in Lithuania is more seasonal. The winter schedule includes around 570 regular flights per week while the summer schedule is made of more than 680. Passengers can watch the timetable of the flights where al regular flights are included. As it was already mentioned, the airport is divided into Arrivals and Departures. In Arrivals there are 3 sectors called A,B and C. It is recommended to check in which one your guests will be directed in the flight information before meeting them.

Lithuania is a member of Schengen zone since the end of 2007 so the airport complies with the requirement of the zone that’s why the passenger service quality, stringency of aviation security and the passenger throughput were highly increased in recent years. Despite aviation services the Airport provides some non aviation services like feeding, housing, parking, car rental, medical aid, taking care of lost baggage, wrapping ports, basic conveyance. The infrastructure of Departures hall was changed when the hall was separated into sections for passengers form the Schengen zone and for those who are not the members. The improvement helped to fasten the passenger flows according to Schengen requirements. Now 14 Airlines from all over the world operate flights from the Vilnius International Airport. More and more  passengers from various countries enjoy the convenience and capacity of the airport every year. According to statistics, from 1998 to 2008 amount of passengers grew from 462000 to 2048000, so more than 4 times.

It is obvious that in the future the need of the Vilnius International Airport will grow even more as it is the biggest and the most  modern in Lithuania.
