Pravda 1 Minute Short Film Festival
Everyone knows that the best reason for greatest thoughts to become a reality is a major will and pushing work. The short film (time limit – 1 minute) festival Pravda 1 minute from the simple venture in 2005 became a prosperous annual event which now has the constantly growing amount of followers, attendants and, of course, films of 1 minute length.
In the very beginning the main purpose of the festival was only to compose a space for amateur directors to create short films fulfilling only one rule – 60 seconds length. Organizers expected to attain not more than 50 films of middling quality and to attract a few hundreds inquisitives to come to the opening. But the results appeared to be totally different: organizers got up to 300 short films and the cinema hall could not handle all the willing to see the premier! That was the beginning of the brand new resonant event in Lithuania: Pravda 1 minute was successfully introduced into public life. In this way it began a journey in 2005 which continues till nowadays and every year gets more and more interesting.
In 2006 organizers attained more than 500 creative tries, 99 of which were showed in the premier. The winner then was Tadas Vidmantas and his film trilogy. In 2007 the festival developed yet more. The program of short films was shown not only in Vilnius cinema halls, but also in other Lithuanian cities. In addition, close cooperation with many foreign festivals of similar attitude and conception was started. The first DVD was then produced. The winner of 2007 was Mantautas Šulskus, who created the ironic 1 minute film called “Christmas”. In 2008 the festival grew well. First time the filming training was arranged where attendants could use the professional technique. The premier was shown in many Lithuanian cities at one time. 60 best films were selected to be included into competitive program. “Shining Breakfast” was accepted to be the best of all.
As the festival is based on democracy, no qualification is required for festival participants. There is no difference what is the age, sex, nationality or experience of creators. There are no even special requirements for the filming technique as now there are two main film categories: mobile program (films, recorded with mobile phones accepted) and usual program : films, recorded with usual technique accepted). There is no doubt, everybody who wants to participate there can participate without any checks. Thus we can come to conclusion, that Pravda 1 minute is the festival giving both – pleasure for audience and opportunities for young and creative people.
