Let there be night!
This year it will be the 4th time when Vilnius will celebrate culture all night long. The “Let there be night” festival which will take place at night from the 19th to 20th of June will invite Vilnius guests and citizens to attend many cultural performances, activities and exhibitions .
An idea to organize the venue which takes place in Vilnius since 2007 and have already became a nice tradition in Lithuania came here from capitals of Western Europe countries. When city squares become dance floors under starred sky, when parks become cinema halls, when beautiful melodies sound inside churches and love songs are sang in balconies all night long – it means that the “Let there be night” miracles started.
In order to help festival guests to attend as many events as it is possible, from 5:00 PM to 12:00 PM there will be volunteers providing information and maps working in special festival information centers located at Coffee Inn`s all around the Vilnius Old town (Vilniaus str.. 17, Gedimino ave. 9, Pilies str. 3), in addition to this, from 5:00 PM to 10:00 PM information will be provided also at Vilnius tourism information center located in Vilnius Town Hall (Didžioji str. 31). Also it will be possible to meet volunteers wearing very clear waistcoats of blaze color and ask them for help. This year there were also 7 special routes prepared in advance so that people do not have to cast about where to go and what to see.
Organizers of the festival also took care about transportation of late night festival guests. Special night microbus courses will be available until 2:30 AM so from the city center Santariškės (Nr.5), Šeškinė (Nr.2, 20), Fabijoniškės, Naujininkai (Nr. 20), Lazdynai, Karoliniškės (51), Žvėrynas, Viršuliškės, Justiniškės (Nr. 7) districts will be easy reachable.
Organizers also wanted to inform that it would be better to come earlier to inside events because of possible lack of place as well as to register in advance for excursions and creative workshops.
In 2009 Vilnius festival “Let there be night” was attended by more than 100 000 people. Media channels broadcasted more than a hundred reports and reportages about the venue proving a big interest in the festival. This year, despite the fact that stars at night may be hidden by rain clouds, organizers expect not less attendants than previous year.
