Lithuania includes almost 6000 lakes of natural strain. 3000 of them are larger than 0,5 ha and the rest are smaller than that. The lakes altogether takes about 914 sq. km width. 13 lakes in Lithuania are of larger than 10 sq. km width. The most famous Lithuanian lakes are Drūkšiai which is the biggest one (44 sq.km width), the longest lake Asveja (21,9 km length) and the deepest Tauragnas(60,5m depth).

The Drūkšiai lake is the largest lake in Lithuania. The lake relates Lithuania, Belarus and Latvia. The Atomic Power station is built near it so the lake is under strict control as well as under mystique trail.

Luokesai lake is very important for all Europe as its sands and silts conserved archeological values in its deep bottom. In 2000 remains of 2500 year old lake settlement were found that provided history science with many new specifications about the late Stone and Metal Ages.
